It would be naive to think that we can solve the accelerating ecological crisis with a quick technological fix. As full decoupling of economic growth and resource consumption is not possible, initiatives for a sustainable future require not only technological improvements, but also changes in consumption and social practices. As the use of energy and materials includes questions concerning the responsible management of resources, sustainable building culture is first and foremost an aesthetic question. Since this includes questions about who this management benefits, sustainable building culture is ultimately an ethical issue.
